Instrument Protection Question?

I have about 10 instruments that I like to keep out of their cases. Is it ok for me to keep them out of their cases, even though I don’t usually play all of them every day? I take the mouthpieces out. They are safe from being knocked over, but I’m worried about rust and corrosion. Is there anything, such as regular cleaning and oiling, that I can do to insure that I can keep them out of their cases, making them readily accessible, without hurting them?

Safest place is in the case. WHY do you want them all out? And if you want to display them because they are ornate, or rare – then invest in glass cases. I have over $100,000 worth of musical instruments that I use professionally – they are IN THE CASE unless being used. And the are all insured but Clarion – the outfit that insures MOST pros instruments.

  2. Dunlap makes some really good products that come in cleaning kits you can pick up at your local guitar shop.

Keep in mind, though, that the neck of the guitar needs to be properly supported to avoid it warping over time.
