Painting the ratrod wire wheels

Set of 34 Ford 16 inchers. Can’t afford sandblasting and powdercoat, so I do it the old fashioned way, with a wire brush and a paint can.

No, I never heard that, but I’ve done some art work in the past. I figure, unless someone better comes along, I could take a shot at it..

  15. You know, …
You know, pinstriping is one of those things you watch someone do and think, you know, I could do that.. and you probably can. I’ve heard it’s best to practice a little on a piece of glass, cause you can scrape it clean and try again till you get your strokes right. Anyhoo, you prolly know all that stuff being an experienced hot rodder…

My dad worked for Simmons. They made those and other types of hospital furniture. I brought that one home, put a roller on it, and used it to help feed lumber through a radial arm saw..

I’m really enjoying all your videos. Where did you get the adjustable height table that is in your garage? What was it originally used for?

Welcome. I like the 38 Chevy you’re building too…. Maybe we’ll both park side beside at a rat run one of these days. Wouldn’t that be a hoot!

  19. Thinking of mixing …
Thinking of mixing some yellow and green rustoleum and see if I can get a shade of green that agrees with me. It’ll kind of match the green in that grill shell.. That’s my thinking for today.. Paint the frame black, and pin stripe it with the same color green. Do the pin striping myself, unless someone comes along and wants to do it. Don’t know anybody that does that, but bet I could..

  20. Yea, I’m kind of …
Yea, I’m kind of drifting away from doing what everybody else is doin’. Think I’m going to mix up my own color of green. Figure I’ll paint the wheels kind of an olive green, paint the frame black, and pin stripe the frame with the same color. Leave the body as is, mostly.. That’s the thought for today.. anyway.

    I admire your …
I admire your willingness to grind and brush them by hand. I would have gotten lazy and paid someone to blast them… or just soaked them in a tub of hot water and lye. That’ll strip anything.

I vote for red as the final color for the wheels. That’s the customary ratrod color scheme… flat black body with red wheels (and a hint of rust).

    Lookin good.
