Derust a rusty kitchen/pasta strainer?
It was a cheap one (maybe $5 new), but I don’t want to throw it out if I don’t need to. I spent two hours applying and removing naval jelly to/from it about six months ago, however, and would rather gouge my eyes out with a fork (or, less ridiculously, throw it out) than repeat that exercise. Ideas?
Honest to Pete. I swear. But 3 out of 3 practically shouted, hand-waving, forehead-slapping answers can’t be wrong. Going out right now to buy a shiny new one. Thanks;)
Honest to pete! But a new one because you DO need to throw it out! Do you want to be eating rust mixed with petroleum jelly?! Ick!
Put it in the garbage – new ones are very inexpensive………….your pasta will thank you for it :]

Was it your Mom’s or something? If it has sentimental value (and I understand how that can be) than perhaps your strainer needs a new purpose. Maybe you can make a crazy planter out of it and put it outside on the porch?
And buy a plastic one for food.
The only other thing is to prime and paint it but that does not sound to healthy to me.
Do you use an SOS pad when you clean it by hand every time? That might work too.
