How To Refurbish a Metal Shipping Container

I made this video to show the process by which I refurbish shipping containers. First we grind off any loose flaky rust. It’s fine to have some mild surface rust as we treat it with a rust converter which turns the rust into a hard paintable substance. The product we use is not unlike the products sold to treat the rust on automobile frames or bodies when being restored. After the rust converter has dried (typically the next day), we brush all of the areas that can not be rolled. Finally we roll all of the flat spots on the shipping container. Although we didn’t show it in the video, we pay special attention to the roof of the shipping container as that is where a leak is most likely to develop. Therefore we make sure to grind off any rust, prime with the rust converter, and paint the entire roof of the storage container.
