What are some common chemicals that i could use in a lab experiment to try and prevent the corrosion of iron?

hi, im doing a independent research project for my chemistry class but i need some help….im going to test what the best concentration or most efficient concentration of a certain chemical should be used against the corrosion of iron (rust). i cant seem to find a compound that is safe and still known to be effective when applied? anyone have ideas?

Try an even coat of lightweight motor oil.
